Guest Lecture in Basel hosted by Baloise
The event was hosted by Baloise and took place on April 22, 2015 in the Auditorium Baloise in Basel. Thomas Schöb, Head of Asset Strategy & Investment Controlling at Baloise Group and alumnus of the Rochester-Bern EMBA program, opened the event and welcomed guests and speakers. He also introduced to the topic of the lecture which was held by Prof. Dr. Marc Gruber.
How can organizations foster a culture of innovation and an entrepreneurial mindset?
By any standard, the dramatic changes seen in today's business environment are unparalleled - and the speed and force with which these changes impact firms is likely to increase even further in the coming years. Case in point, many firms are faced with fierce competition that originates from beyond traditional industry boundaries, and from geographic areas that have once been considered as being too remote to be threatening. As a result of such changes, innovative ideas and competitive advantages that once lasted for several years turn out to be much less "sustainable".
In light of these developments, entrepreneurship and innovation have become core elements of managerial practice. In fact, in today's business environment the best-run companies are the ones that can combine entrepreneurial insight with flawless execution. They have built capabilities, processes and structures that enable "intrapreneurship", and have nurtured a culture of innovation.
Building on and extending these themes, the lecture of Professor Gruber shared recent insights from research and practice on how organizations can not only counter the moves of aggressive competitors but - even more importantly - benefit from the rapid changes occurring in their environments as they foster a culture of innovation and develop an entrepreneurial mindset.
