On the Trail of James Bond - Rochester-Bern Executive MBA company-visit
As part of the course “Operations Management” taught by Prof. Dr. Robert Boute, Rochester-Bern Executive MBA students of class 23 (2017/18) visited the OMEGA SA headquarters in Biel/Bienne. OMEGA’s recently opened production building was the perfect showcase for supply chain management.
OMEGA, which belongs to the Swatch-Group, invested CHF 150 Million for the construction of the new factory and opened just a few days before the company visit. Vice President and Head of Procurement and Production, Andreas Hobmeier, guided the visitors through the multi-level building and answered their questions with great enthusiasm and knowledge. Very remarkable was the new storage room in the 30 meter high building, operated by robotics only and storing billions of parts to be assembled to high-quality watches.
The students also had the chance to follow the trail of James Bond’s OMEGA Seamaster through to the Speedmaster piece, which has been the only watch ever on the moon. The OMEGA museum harbors all these and many more treasures. Another interesting fact: OMEGA has been the official timekeeper of the Olympic Games since 1932.
The visit was concluded with an interesting insight into OMEGA’s worldwide activities and partnerships. Visiting this innovative, world-renowned Swiss company and having the opportunity to look at its diverse processes was a valuable experience for our Executive MBA participants.
