Head Down and Sprint

Genessee River, Rochester
Jean-Marc Leutenegger started the Rochester-Bern Executive EMBA in 2004. His stay in Rochester, New York, is particularly memorable.

The EMBA-RoBe was an incredible experience and a wonderful and formative time, although extremely intensive.

The team-building process at the beginning of the program had an impressive and lasting impact on me. It took some time to realize that the “others didn’t fall on their heads either”. From then on, the team matured incredibly. Thanks in part to the very high pressure, it was no longer an option to discuss and debate unimportant matters for a long time, but there was no other option than to trust the others in the team – and it worked out very well.

This has resulted in lifelong friendships between us. That’s priceless, because it’s the people that make the difference.

But yes, there were also moments of stress – how could it be otherwise? For me, one such moment was when I got a flat tire on my bike before an exam along the Genesee River on the way to Simon School during the Rochester summer. I knew that the stage would start and finish on schedule and that time was very tight. So there was only one thing to do: “Keep your head down and sprint”.

I have lasting memories of Rochester in particular, be it the barbecue evening at Prof. Cliff Smith’s, the visits and the incredible food at Dinosaur or the European Football Championship final with the unexpected victory of Greece.
