What is the Impact of an EMBA on your Career?

EMBA career
Is it worth the effort? The study journey of an EMBA degree is not easy, but the rewards far outweigh the obstacles. Some examples from our alumni/ae show the career benefits.

Going back to school, spending your evenings studying finance, finding your way around with new peers from completely different fields – doing an EMBA can be scary. Despite the initial concerns, the investment in an EMBA is undoubtedly worthwhile. Our alumni/ae demonstrate its transformative power through their success stories, revealing the following benefits of an EMBA:

New knowledge – more effectiveness

With an EMBA, you will acquire new knowledge and learn new tools to support you in your day-to-day work. You will be able to complete tasks faster and more efficiently. For example, our RoBe alumnus David Hehlen, Corporate Advisor at UBS uses the concept “Where to play” regularly in his Job. It is a method that helps leaders prioritize ideas, determining which should be pursued and which should not.

Back up your arguments with facts and data

The Rochester-Bern EMBA offers a quantitative, economics-based approach to decision-making, providing a competitive edge in today’s data-driven business environments. It will teach you how to make data-driven decisions. You will enhance your technical skills for data analysis, and your management skills to back up your decisions and implement organizational changes. “I already knew a lot about finance, but I still learned much, since the classes were really about understanding the concepts behind the theories and not only the transfer of book knowledge”, says RoBe alumna Judit Varga, Associate Finance Director at Takeda.

International outreach

Our students spend four weeks in Rochester, U.S., and also enjoy an Asia experience. This gives you an international outlook that not only looks good on your CV, but also leads to concrete career steps, helping you open doors nationally and internationally. Our alumnus Jaime Pulido for example, moved to Tokyo after completing his EMBA to work as a Digital Transformation (DX) IT Strategy Manager at Hitachi headquarters. Daniel Hollenstein, who also completed the RoBe EMBA, works at the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China Limited, Zurich Branch – the largest Bank in the world.

A step towards independence

By grasping the intricacies of business, the program can empower you as an employee as well as a successful entrepreneur. Many of our alumni/ae have embraced the entrepreneurial mindset, leveraging their EMBA education to create their own ventures. Philip Weis and Michael Mühlemann, both RoBe EMBA alumni, have connected as Business Partners and founded their own wealth management services company. Their advice to EMBA students who wish to start their own business: “Go for it. You are presently in the best preparatory environment you can be in during your studies for such a step. Don’t wait too long after completion!”

The vertical career ladder

Of course, the EMBA also helps with a classic vertical career jump. The continuing education program prepares you to take on more responsibility and managerial roles. Mirjam Weber, for example, was promoted from Member of the Executive Board to CEO of the Swiss Cancer League during her EMBA journey. Or Alumnus Dominique Schmid, who was appointed Director of Nidwalden Hospital.

An EMBA opens you doors, equipping you with you new skills, boosting your self-confidence and expanding your network. There are hardly any limits to the possibilities, as you gain the tools and connections needed to navigate and excel in today’s landscape. Find out more
