The Master Plan – A RoBe Company Visit at Tesla Zurich

Tesla visit
Tesla’s Master Plan is: Create a low volume car, which would necessarily be expensive; use that money to develop a medium volume car at a lower price; use that money to create an affordable, high volume car; provide solar power. But did you know that Tesla created this Master Plan ten years ago?

In 2006 Elon Musk published a blog post called “The Secret Tesla Motors Master Plan (just between you and me)”. This witty article introduces Tesla Motors’ idea of “expedit[ing] the move from a mine-and-burn hydrocarbon economy towards a solar electric economy”. The plan was – all along as many might not have realized – not to build a high-end electric car, but instead, to direct the economy and its users (you and me) towards a more energy efficient lifestyle. In short: sustainability. Thus, in 2016, Musk elaborated on his (not so secret anymore) Master Plan “Part Deux” and listed the following goals:

  • Create stunning solar roofs with seamlessly integrated battery storage
  • Expand the electric vehicle product line to address all major segments
  • Develop a self-driving capability that is 10X safer than manual via massive fleet learning
  • Enable your car to make money for you when you aren’t using it

It was of no surprise that the Company Visit at the Tesla Store in Zurich was a great success. After a short introduction by our CEO, Prof. Dr. Petra Joerg, the store representative guided us through a tour of Tesla’s visions, concepts, and projects. The highlight of the night were obviously the test drives: The design, power, and technology of the cars made a lasting impression on our guests.

A big thank you to the team on site for their support and to the catering company Gärtnerei for the delicious apero.
