CAS Digital Acceleration & AI: Leading Digital Transformation

KI-Generiertes Bild zur Strategischen Initiative
AI is rapidly transforming business models, work practices, and processes. With the targeted use of AI, the boundaries of what is possible are constantly expanding. This requires clear goals, binding rules, and empowered employees. The CAS program definitely met my expectations and deepened my fascination with AI.

Why I Enrolled in the CAS Program

AI is transforming knowledge-intensive, analytical, and documentation-heavy tasks. Business models are being reimagined, and competition is intensifying. This makes it all the more important to quickly develop a solid understanding of this technology.

I am the owner of a consulting firm and wanted to better understand

  • how AI technologies work,
  • how AI is changing competition,
  • how AI is integrated into processes,
  • how AI influences the world of work,
  • and how AI affects society.

Four Key Takeaways from the CAS

Digital transformation is not achieved by using as many AI tools as possible, but rather through a digital strategy, clear guidelines for working with AI, appropriate data and processes, empowered employees, and consistent implementation.

Among my key insights are:

Digital Strategy as a Pathfinder

An organization’s digital maturity is measured across seven strategic dimensions of digital transformation. Opportunities and risks must be identified, potential must be translated into strategic initiatives, and these must be implemented through prioritized measures. This is a sensible starting point even for a small SME.

Governance as the Key to Quality

AI-powered assistants and intelligent agents are transforming the way work gets done by automating an increasing range of tasks. AI can structure, organize, and condense content, but it cannot reliably determine what is appropriate, permissible, or justifiable in a specific case. Therefore, collaboration between humans and AI requires clear rules for handling data, as well as source verification, approvals, and quality assurance.

People as Enablers of Transformation

When people understand how to use AI effectively, work on specific tasks, and develop new routines for their daily work based on these experiences, AI competencies emerge. Specifically, this means empowering employees to first use AI in clearly defined pilot use cases, critically evaluate the results, and only then scale successful approaches in a targeted manner.

Agile Project Management as a Driver of Implementation

The transformation requires clear lines of responsibility and an appropriate management tool to ensure that implementation does not fragment into too many parallel initiatives. Agile methods such as the Kanban board help make actions and progress visible. At the same time, WIP limits cap the amount of work in progress and prevent an endless to-do list.

How I Put These Insights into Practice

The CAS Digital Acceleration & AI program has equipped me with practical methods and provided space for reflection. I have translated these insights into a practical framework and am using it to guide the further development of my consulting firm. To this end, our executive team has defined three strategic initiatives, established guidelines for the responsible use of AI, is building a knowledge base for digital assistants, and is further developing our expertise based on clearly defined use cases.

What Made the CAS Special for Me

I greatly appreciated the professors’ in-depth expertise, which was grounded in real-world practice through contributions from companies. The diverse experiences and perspectives fostered open and stimulating discussions in class and beyond, even during relaxed dinners.

The combination of theory, concrete examples, and personal exchange made the CAS particularly valuable to me and broadened my perspective far beyond my own organization.

The CAS has deepened my fascination with AI. As a result, my personal learning journey with AI as a powerful tool has only just begun.
